See a Penny…

See a penny pick it up. All day long you’ll have good luck.

Ilford HP5 Negative Contact Strip

A short sequence of images display a visual narrative. A small story void of words that invites the viewer to look deeper, to ponder or wonder.

To me these short sequences relay a truth in the images and expand the moment with quiet narrative. A series of images greater than the sum of their parts and at the very least I could come away with a few shots to pick and choose from. It’s a habit I am trying to get into more and more lately.

One of the advantages of the Canon P is it’s quiet shutter. A discreet, barely audible click that allows a stealthy, almost concealed and candid style that doesn’t interfere with what is unfolding in front of me.

As I walked past this chap I could see he was pondering something on the pavement. As I read the situation I lifted the camera and fired off a series of shots as he dabbed at something with his foot before bending down to pick it up.

He examined it in his hand and popped it in his pocket. I kept shooting until he eventually broke out of his little world and looked up at me.

I nodded and walked away with my penny in my pocket.
